PART II - FEES A fee ($20.00, non-refundable) must accompany each application to the Eastern Consortium. Each of the Consortium's tracks of instruction consists three courses for a total of 15 quarter credit hours of enrollment (i.e., full-time). UofC’s tuition for full-time student registration in Summer 2007 is projected to be at least $2,425.00 per course. Audit tuition rate will be at least $1,650 per course. These fees are exclusive of the costs for room, board, student health insurance, and instructional materials. There will be no program fees assessed by the Consortium other than the requisite University fees. NOTE: the Consortium will accept the full Summer FLAS tuition award rate ($4,000.00) as payment in full for UofC tuition for students from Consortium member institutions. Upon notification of acceptance into the program, the student will apply online through the Graham School of General Studies. All admitted Consortium students will also be responsible for paying two required University fees: 1) a $65.00 UofC student activities fee; and, 2) a $165.00 Student Health Services Fee.

PART III - FINANCIAL AID

1. Some financial aid in the form of tuition authorizations is available from the Consortium to qualified graduate and professional student applicants. Students applying to other sources of financial aid for use in this program may also apply to the Consortium for alternative or supplemental support. Students may apply for the Consortium's financial aid by completing the application form above. Students who accept the Consortium's financial aid will not be permitted to register in other UofC courses during Summer Quarter 2007. Any student who accepts an UofC tuition authorization and who then does not complete the Consortium program may be responsible for repayment of any resulting fees.

2. In addition to the statement of purpose (see Part I, item 15. above), all applicants must provide two letters of reference written and signed on academic or business letterhead stationery. One should usually be from a language instructor (of any language) and one from an instructor familiar with the student's major course of study. Letters of reference may be sent directly by the recommender to the Consortium, at the address above, or submitted with this application, in which case each reference must be placed in a sealed envelope by the recommender, who is asked to sign his/her name over the seal. Applicants must also submit to the Consortium, at the address above, an official copy of an undergraduate transcript clearly indicating the degree completed and the date of its completion. All application materials for Consortium financial aid must be received by April 1, 2008.

3. Consortium applicants for Persian or Turkish study who are graduate or professional students may apply for a Summer 2007 FLAS Fellowship from UofC Middle East Studies Center. Visit this link for all relevant eligibility criteria and application procedures. Please note that UofC FLAS Fellowship application deadline is January 18, 2008.

4. The Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), the academic organization of the Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago, provides some financial aid to graduate students at these universities who wish to study at another CIC institution: a) the Foreign Language Enhancement Program (FLEP) Scholarship is intended to help students take advantage of less commonly taught language offerings not available to them at their home university; and b) the Traveling Scholar Program enables doctoral-level students at any CIC university to take advantage of educational opportunities at any other CIC university without change in registration or increase in tuition. These sources of support may be held concurrently with other awards, if permitted by the student's home institution or other awarding agency policy.

PART IV - INSTRUCTION The Consortium's instruction will consist of approximately 200 contact hours to be offered via the following regular UofC courses, each of which carries five quarter hours of graded credit. Classes will meet for five hours daily on the dates indicated below.
